# Layer Basics Source: [Layer Basics video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K24S_Beq9_U) Four different types of layers in unify2. Init patch: * MA at the bottom is master layer * I1 at the top is instrument * I1 has a guru sampler We also have: * Midi effects, e.g. M1. Midi effects will play instrument layers. Where you place it depends on how you want to use it. BlueARP is built in. If a Midi effect is put in a layer, it only affects that layer. Ctrl+Shift+Click copies plugin state. Then + button allows paste state. Or Shift+Click pastes copied state. If we put it in a M1 layer, call the layer ARP we need to route it. Midi input is top left (starts saying IN): ![]{cs}(LayerInputSelector_001.png) Then choose the layer the midi comes from. Now we can e.g. load Serum 2 in a layer. That can also get input from ARP. *Aside*: To make presets, make a layer, add the plugin you want. **Bullet → Save Layer as Preset**. We could have subfolders with common templates to further speed the workflow. Add one more layer, not connected to blue arp. Load a guru sampler 2. Select a pad. Then we have a pad with an arp over the top. Alt drag volume moves volume of all layers. Now we want to add effects. A track can have insert effects, such as a phaser on the pad. We can also add aux busses. We can send to those busses. To route only through an aux, turn the (D)ry to 0. We can load effects on the master and save it as a preset. So the four types of layer: Instrument, Midi, Aux, Master.
