Notes on Kenny's Youtube Videos
Kenny Gioia as produced many more tutorial videos on Reaper than I'll ever manage to watch. Amazingly it only covers part of the sheer scope one finds in a customisable platform like Reaper. I've started watching them, beginning with the Things You Didn't Know Reaper Could Do series, and taking condensed notes. Often it is good to have Reaper open and play with the things discussed yourself.
The notes themselves are not comprehensive: they serve two roles, one of which is to remind me of things (and this is why it's important to try stuff out as you watch), the other is to allow me to locate a video covering some topic. I can skim read the entire contents of my notes on Things You Didn't Know, yet to re-watch the videos would take an hour or two. If I do need to rewatch, then I can pin down the video, and whether it's at the start, middle, or end. That saves much time.
I'm also a fan of note-taking in general: a well-organised system of notes is an extension of your brain and memory. An efficient system of notes allows you to recall things that would otherwise take significant time to rediscover. And if lack of immediate recall arises in the course of a creative activity, it's often enough to derail the entire thread of creative flow. In a sense, as I say elsewhere, this wiki is a kind of live, open, public notebook where I write things down for myself, but in a way that others can see. (It does this in addition to presenting discussions of topics that I do want to disseminate.)
